Wed Night AA; Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Have a GREAT New Year!!

Good evening everyone, Just thought I would remind everyone we won't be having a meeting this Wednesday or next. I fully expect to have some stray AAs knocking on my door but hey who knows... maybe people DO read these e-mails! (Imagine that) We will resume on the 7th of January reading "Being Sober & Becoming Happy". I'll send out the reading schedule before the meeting. Also, I wanted to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!!! A Happy Hanukkah from me to you. I wish everyone a GREAT New Year!! Yes, there is a substitute [to liquor] and it is vastly more than that. It is a fellowship in Alcoholics Anonymous. There you will find release from care, boredom and worry. Your imagination will be fired. Life will mean something at last. The most satisfactory years of your existence lie ahead. Thus we find fellowship, and so will you.     -pg 152, Alcoholics Anonymous Thank you to everyone for creating the fellowship we crave. I am certain ne...

Wed Night AA Meeting; Chapter 11 - A Vision for You

Good Evening, This Wednesday will be the last meeting of 2014. As we would like to start with something new next year, we will be focusing our reading this week on  Chapter 11- A Vision for You . However, if you would like to read and discuss anything on Chapter 10 - To The Employer, please feel free. Last Wednesday we had 20 people at the meeting; The only other meeting with so many people was Greg's Eulogy....  A Vision for You  I think is a fitting read to close out a year which has seen the Wednesday Night Big Book Group work through so many changes (changing meeting venues, losing our original patron)  and still grow and reach out to the still sick & suffering alcoholic. I know for myself, imaging a life without booze or mood enhancing drugs seemed lifeless, dull, and boring... Little did I know that this program would slowly but surely bring back the sound, color, and joyful conviviality I had been chasing after for so long.   Also, ...

Wed Night AA Meeting: Chapter 9 - The Family Afterward

Good evening everyone,        This is your friendly reminder that this week we will continue upon our path to  happy usefulness  (p130) by reading chapter 9 - The Family Afterward.        So often it is said  better to identify than to compare . That seemed to be true of the reading last week. This week there are certainly no shortage of things to identify with in the chapter.         Last week I had a strange feeling about the reading, although I forgot to share about it! (of course) This week that feeling seems to be confirmed. That feeling is that no matter what part of the big book you're reading, no matter whether you are single, married (with children or without), a single parent, divorced, windowed, whether you're high bottom or low bottom, cross addicted or straight alcoholic, whether you're a rocket scientist or  just plain retarded  (please refer to the 2...

IMPORTANT -- Wed Night AA: Memorial Meeting for Greg Fischer

Dear friends, It is with a very heavy heart I wish to inform everyone that a member of our fellowship and founder of the Wednesday night meetings, Greg Fischer, has passed away. This comes as a complete shock to many of us, including myself. I'd like to ask everyone to say a quick prayer for him, his family and his partner. In honor of Greg, we will be using tonight's meeting as an opportunity to eulogize the man who put so much of himself into this fellowship, into living, and into loving & caring for his loved ones. May his soul rest in Peace and forever be with us in the Fellowship of the Spirit. Sincerely, David t

Wed Night AA Meeting: Chapter 7 - Working with Others

Good evening my good people (and fellow alcoholics too), This week we will be discussing Chapter 7 - Working with Others. One of the most gratifying things this program offers is the chance to work with other alcoholics and witness the process in others. Its can also be, oddly enough, one of the more terrifying parts. I was told you have to give it away if you want to keep it though and the rewards have been many. The sponsor - sponsee relationship is one of the core ingredients in recovery. The beauty is that sponsoring others is just as beneficial, if not more than, being sponsored. If you've gone through the steps and have a year or more of sobriety, sponsoring is the next rung on that ladder. If you haven't got there yet, you can pray for the willingness & the opportunity to do so.
