Welcome Message

Welcome to my Blog about the Wednesday Night AA Riverside Men's Group

What is The Purpose of this AA Blog?

The Wednesday Night AA Riverside Men's Group, is a group dedicated to reading & understanding the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous co-founded by Bill Wilson & Dr. Bob Smith as well as through other AA-related literature.

Our group was primarily founded by the late Greg Fischer, who was a real credit to the program and a tremendously positive influence on myself and others. We continue to be located in Escazú, San Jose, Costa Rica.

Every week we select a reading from the Big Book or other AA-Related literature to discuss during our meeting. The aim is to expand our knowledge & understanding of this program we all love so much in hopes of becoming better stewards of the AA message of recovery & hope as well as improving our own individual recovery.

The group meets once a week at my home on -- you guessed it -- Wednesday night. You can find our groups format under "pages" in the menu bar. As host and chair of this group, one of the weekly duties I attend to is writing email reminders. These emails were primarily meant to let our group members know what chapters were being read and to notify them of any important news and that sort of thing.

Some might think that writing these letters every week would be a chore. However, I found that I really enjoyed writing these email letters and doing so became a sacred Monday night tradition for me. Often while writing these letters I would include brief remarks or commentaries. These became something like "mini-shares" if you will, a brief sharing of my experience, strength and hope.

Aside from being a part of the weekly group tasks, these notes, shares, articles or whatever you want to call them, were immensely therapeutic for me. Anytime someone would thank me for my service I felt I ought to tell them I was the one getting the long end of the stick!!

Watching fellow AA members follow the group's reading and have AA come alive has been among the most  rewarding experiences for me in AA. It is with the support and encouragement of the group that I have decided to publish these online.

My hope is that perhaps someone, somewhere, may find something they can identify with here and, in doing so, fall in love with the program of AA the way I have.

Abandon yourself to God as you understand God. Admit your faults to Him and to your fellows. Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us. We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny.
May God bless you and keep you - until then.

Yours truly,

A Drunk, Like You p398-406

Hi everyone, My apologies on sending this out late this week, I've been battling a little bit of a cold lately. Anywho, I'd like to thank Dave W. for sharing his excellent story with us last week, nothing helps recovery along like a heavy dose of humor & depravity and Jesus Dave delivered in spades!! Also I'd like to remind everyone of the upcoming AA convention in Manuel Antonio that's taking place from May 6-8th. We're still working on the details of organizing our group to get out there but let me know if your interested and go online to  register now  -  It's FREE!!  (to register anyways, you pay later!!) This week we'll be reading  A Drunk, like You p398-406 . This was the first time for me reading it and I got a lot out of it. Aside from the fact that I always love listening to another  Member of the Tribe  breaking barriers by showing that alcoholism is no respecter of race, religion or creed, proving you  jew *i mean too*  ...

Gutter Bravado p501-511

Good evening Folks, This week we will be reading & discussing  Gutter Bravado p501-511.   One of the great joys of my life is hosting this Wednesday night meeting of which I've had the privileged to serve for some time now. So it gives me a great sense of satisfaction whenever I hear someone, especially a new comer, say that there is  something  special about our meeting. To me it means that the same  something-ness  with which I fell in love with is still there.  Last week, Fred brought up an article originally written in the July 1976 issue of "24 Magazine". In the article, the unknown author compares the quality of someone's AA program to Strong/Medium/Week Coffee.  See the article here:  http://www. barefootsworld.net/ aagreshamslaw.html  It's a bit long but well worth the read (kind of like my e-mails!! lol).  Basically it describes how the rapid growth of AA in the early 40's created a situation in which y...

We will be reading  My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445.  I would ask one favor because I am heading out for Nicaragua that very night at 11pm if we could all please arrive punctually so we can close a bit early I'd appreciate it (I know, I'm talking to alcoholics, it's a lost cause.... lol)    Let me know if you can make it please!
