Riverside Men's AA Group Format

Meeting Format
Wednesday Night Riverside Men’s Group

Welcome everyone, my name is _____________. Please remember to turn-off your cellphones to avoid any distractions during the meeting, if you must take an incoming call please leave the room.

Can we please open the meeting with a moment of silence to remember why we are here followed by the we version of the Serenity Prayer?

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Welcome, this is a closed meeting of the Wednesday Night Riverside Men’s Group. In keeping with our Primary Purpose, we ask that all those who share confine their discussion to their personal experience with alcoholism and recovery from alcoholism. If you have taken these steps and have gotten results, please share your experience. If you have not taken these steps, please be willing to listen. We also ask that you refrain from sharing if you have had a drink or drug within the last 24 hours or have not read the chapter being discussed.

The format of this meeting is that every week we discuss a reading from the Big Book or other AA related literature. The last Wednesday of every month is reserved for a Speaker who will be chosen at random.

Are there any newcomers with less than 30 days sobriety?
Is there anyone attending for the 1st time or visiting from another Group?
Is there anyone celebrating an AA Birthday during the last 30 days?

READ: “How it Works”
READ: “Traditions”

This meeting DOES NOT discourage cross talk but we ask that you be brief and remember our primary purpose when doing so. We ask that you keep in mind the number of people present when sharing so that anyone who wants to share may do so. [ if need be, set a time limit ] After the initial round of sharing, if time permits, we will open the floor to a quick round of feedback.

Tonight, we will be discussing ___________. With that the meeting is now open for sharing.

After initial round of sharing, if time permits:

That closes the initial round of sharing and at this point in keeping with the 7
th Tradition which states: “Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting” the baskets will be passed around.

We will now open the discussion for a quick round of feedback where if any member would like to offer direct advice based on the individual shares they may now do so.

We have come to the end of the sharing portion of the meeting. We remind everyone that this Big Book Study Group meets here every Wednesday night at 7:30pm. Please see me after the meeting if you are not already on our e-mail list.

We ask that everyone please help clean up by putting the chairs back at the table and throwing away any trash.

Are there any AA Announcements?
Are there any non-AA Announcements?

*If there are newcomers: For the benefit of the newcomer, will all those with a year or more of sobriety who are willing to be sponsors please raise their hands.

READ: “Promises” or reading from Big Book.

CLOSE-OUT MEETING WITH PRAYER OF CHOICE.

A Drunk, Like You p398-406

Hi everyone, My apologies on sending this out late this week, I've been battling a little bit of a cold lately. Anywho, I'd like to thank Dave W. for sharing his excellent story with us last week, nothing helps recovery along like a heavy dose of humor & depravity and Jesus Dave delivered in spades!! Also I'd like to remind everyone of the upcoming AA convention in Manuel Antonio that's taking place from May 6-8th. We're still working on the details of organizing our group to get out there but let me know if your interested and go online to  register now  -  It's FREE!!  (to register anyways, you pay later!!) This week we'll be reading  A Drunk, like You p398-406 . This was the first time for me reading it and I got a lot out of it. Aside from the fact that I always love listening to another  Member of the Tribe  breaking barriers by showing that alcoholism is no respecter of race, religion or creed, proving you  jew *i mean too*  ...

Gutter Bravado p501-511

Good evening Folks, This week we will be reading & discussing  Gutter Bravado p501-511.   One of the great joys of my life is hosting this Wednesday night meeting of which I've had the privileged to serve for some time now. So it gives me a great sense of satisfaction whenever I hear someone, especially a new comer, say that there is  something  special about our meeting. To me it means that the same  something-ness  with which I fell in love with is still there.  Last week, Fred brought up an article originally written in the July 1976 issue of "24 Magazine". In the article, the unknown author compares the quality of someone's AA program to Strong/Medium/Week Coffee.  See the article here:  http://www. barefootsworld.net/ aagreshamslaw.html  It's a bit long but well worth the read (kind of like my e-mails!! lol).  Basically it describes how the rapid growth of AA in the early 40's created a situation in which y...

The Perpetual Quest p388-397

Good evening everyone, Before I get to the weekly reminder, I wanted to inform everyone, if you didn't know already, that this years  Manual Antonio AA International Convention  is coming up. The convention will be May 6, 7 & 8th (Fri thru Sunday). I think it would be awesome if we could get a group of the wednesday night men's group to go. I even got a hall pass from my significant other already!! You can check out the convention and  register online here  . There are no upfront fees, you pay when you show up. You do need to reserve a hotel room ahead of time and I'd like to get a head count so maybe we can split some rooms between us. Go ahead and take a look at the website and we can discuss everything at the end of the meeting this week. This wednesday night we will be going over  The Perpetual Quest p388-397.  I thought this was a very interesting story, brought me back to a time early in recovery when things seemed more complicated and yet simpl...
