Wed Night AA Meeting; Chapter 11 - A Vision for You

Good Evening,
This Wednesday will be the last meeting of 2014. As we would like to start with something new next year, we will be focusing our reading this week on Chapter 11- A Vision for You. However, if you would like to read and discuss anything on Chapter 10 - To The Employer, please feel free.
Last Wednesday we had 20 people at the meeting; The only other meeting with so many people was Greg's Eulogy.... A Vision for You I think is a fitting read to close out a year which has seen the Wednesday Night Big Book Group work through so many changes (changing meeting venues, losing our original patron)  and still grow and reach out to the still sick & suffering alcoholic.

I know for myself, imaging a life without booze or mood enhancing drugs seemed lifeless, dull, and boring... Little did I know that this program would slowly but surely bring back the sound, color, and joyful conviviality I had been chasing after for so long.

Also, because this will be the last time we meet this year, we will be needing to make a decision on what reading material we will be diving into next. The suggestion so far has been "Being Sober & Becoming Happy" written by Dr.John A. MacDougall who is the director of Spiritual Guidance at Hazelden. You can find a description of the book here on Amazon's website. One of our members has generously donated a number of books to make them available for everyone. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know and we will hopefully make a final decision next week during the announcements.
Happy reading,
David t.

Group Feedback:

David I like the John Mc Dougal book so fine with me...if this doesn't resonate with all I like the book, "The Steps We Took" by John McQ. I would be more than happy to make a purchase of 20 of these for the group or to help with more of the John Mc Dougal book. I came on a great book you can get on Amazon ( Kindle) called "The Sponsor's 12 Step Manual A Guide to Teaching and Learning the Program of AA" by John F. great for using with a sponsee.
I love this reading and the last two paragraphs of the "Vision for You" are amazing words!
Russ

A Drunk, Like You p398-406

Hi everyone, My apologies on sending this out late this week, I've been battling a little bit of a cold lately. Anywho, I'd like to thank Dave W. for sharing his excellent story with us last week, nothing helps recovery along like a heavy dose of humor & depravity and Jesus Dave delivered in spades!! Also I'd like to remind everyone of the upcoming AA convention in Manuel Antonio that's taking place from May 6-8th. We're still working on the details of organizing our group to get out there but let me know if your interested and go online to  register now  -  It's FREE!!  (to register anyways, you pay later!!) This week we'll be reading  A Drunk, like You p398-406 . This was the first time for me reading it and I got a lot out of it. Aside from the fact that I always love listening to another  Member of the Tribe  breaking barriers by showing that alcoholism is no respecter of race, religion or creed, proving you  jew *i mean too*  ...

Gutter Bravado p501-511

Good evening Folks, This week we will be reading & discussing  Gutter Bravado p501-511.   One of the great joys of my life is hosting this Wednesday night meeting of which I've had the privileged to serve for some time now. So it gives me a great sense of satisfaction whenever I hear someone, especially a new comer, say that there is  something  special about our meeting. To me it means that the same  something-ness  with which I fell in love with is still there.  Last week, Fred brought up an article originally written in the July 1976 issue of "24 Magazine". In the article, the unknown author compares the quality of someone's AA program to Strong/Medium/Week Coffee.  See the article here:  http://www. barefootsworld.net/ aagreshamslaw.html  It's a bit long but well worth the read (kind of like my e-mails!! lol).  Basically it describes how the rapid growth of AA in the early 40's created a situation in which y...

My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445

Good evening everyone, Just wanted to send out a quick email and let everyone know that there will be a meeting this wednesday even though it is Semana Santa. We will be reading  My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445.  I would ask one favor because I am heading out for Nicaragua that very night at 11pm if we could all please arrive punctually so we can close a bit early I'd appreciate it (I know, I'm talking to alcoholics, it's a lost cause.... lol)    Let me know if you can make it please! Best Regards, David t
