Student of Life p319-327

Good evening fellas,
Just your reminder this week we'll be reviewing Student of Life p319-327.
I like this section of the book "They Stopped in Time" (part II of the personal stories) because they really illustrate just how varied & different our bottoms can beFor many, the lack of consequences was equal to proof of not having a problem. However, in my case, I was only got clear headed enough after getting sober to really see the consequences of my actions -- it's probably one of the reasons we kept drinking past the point of sanity; to keep us oblivious to the reality of our drinking.

Sometimes, we may feel we still have some legs under us as far as the drink goes. This weekend I accompanied my girlfriend to a bar in San Pedro for her department's after-hours work party and Ohhhhhhh Mmmaaaaaaaaaan!! They had some drinks I'd never heard of and now they've got these portable beer fountains they bring straight to your table!!

Thank god I've made a decision to turn my will life, my thoughts and my life over to the care of God as I understood him... As I was looking around at all these 20-something year olds with bright shiny faces, whoopin' & hollerin' and have a helluva a good ol' time... Instead of feeling like a martyr for not drinking, which I used to do, I remembered and -- more importantly today -- believe in what the book says on page 30: "The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the GREAT OBSESSION of every abnormal drinker." That night, I really had to really get down on my knees and thank god for another day of sobriety.

What I've come to believe in is that the only bottom I will EVER have to worry about is my own. There were no trophies to be had from digging just a little longer and we've all tried to dig a little longer than we should. As the fellow in this story puts it "You hit bottom when you stop digging." (p325)
Good night folks, see you Wednesday!
David t.

A Drunk, Like You p398-406

Hi everyone, My apologies on sending this out late this week, I've been battling a little bit of a cold lately. Anywho, I'd like to thank Dave W. for sharing his excellent story with us last week, nothing helps recovery along like a heavy dose of humor & depravity and Jesus Dave delivered in spades!! Also I'd like to remind everyone of the upcoming AA convention in Manuel Antonio that's taking place from May 6-8th. We're still working on the details of organizing our group to get out there but let me know if your interested and go online to  register now  -  It's FREE!!  (to register anyways, you pay later!!) This week we'll be reading  A Drunk, like You p398-406 . This was the first time for me reading it and I got a lot out of it. Aside from the fact that I always love listening to another  Member of the Tribe  breaking barriers by showing that alcoholism is no respecter of race, religion or creed, proving you  jew *i mean too*  ...

My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445

Good evening everyone, Just wanted to send out a quick email and let everyone know that there will be a meeting this wednesday even though it is Semana Santa. We will be reading  My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445.  I would ask one favor because I am heading out for Nicaragua that very night at 11pm if we could all please arrive punctually so we can close a bit early I'd appreciate it (I know, I'm talking to alcoholics, it's a lost cause.... lol)    Let me know if you can make it please! Best Regards, David t

The Perpetual Quest p388-397

Good evening everyone, Before I get to the weekly reminder, I wanted to inform everyone, if you didn't know already, that this years  Manual Antonio AA International Convention  is coming up. The convention will be May 6, 7 & 8th (Fri thru Sunday). I think it would be awesome if we could get a group of the wednesday night men's group to go. I even got a hall pass from my significant other already!! You can check out the convention and  register online here  . There are no upfront fees, you pay when you show up. You do need to reserve a hotel room ahead of time and I'd like to get a head count so maybe we can split some rooms between us. Go ahead and take a look at the website and we can discuss everything at the end of the meeting this week. This wednesday night we will be going over  The Perpetual Quest p388-397.  I thought this was a very interesting story, brought me back to a time early in recovery when things seemed more complicated and yet simpl...
