Speaker Meeting

Good afternoon gents,
We've got a very easy reading assignment this week, none! Its the last Wednesday of the month so we've got our speaker meeting in store.
Last week we paid a little tribute to Greg Fischer who passed away one year ago last week. As I'm writing this e-mail I recalled that the format portion of this e-mail (all the stuff below this personal message) was "borrowed generously" (ie: copy'n'pasted) from Greg's e-mail. I figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it!?

I wanted to draw your attention to this specific portion he wrote, I think it embodies both what the Wednesday night meeting is about and how the program of AA is suppose to work:
  • Suggestions for making the most of these meetings...
Highlight actual passages IN THE BOOK (you can do this even if you use a digital copy) and/or take notes while you're reading so when you share you can discuss something specific. 

The primary purpose of this meeting is to READ THE BOOK, first and foremost for our own individual recovery, and secondly to work towards understanding it's application in our lives and the fellowship. Anyone can attend to listen but I suggest that we stay on topic, based on that week's reading. Some of us have read the book before, others may never have opened it. This is an opportunity to read about the foundation of our recovery program while hearing other's thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Ultimately it’s about helping each other stay sober a day at a time. 

Only you know why you're here. If you’re honest with both yourself and the fellowship there will always be help for you to recover from what is for most of us a debilitating and deadly disease if not addressed through a program of recovery.

Gutter Bravado p501-511

Good evening Folks, This week we will be reading & discussing  Gutter Bravado p501-511.   One of the great joys of my life is hosting this Wednesday night meeting of which I've had the privileged to serve for some time now. So it gives me a great sense of satisfaction whenever I hear someone, especially a new comer, say that there is  something  special about our meeting. To me it means that the same  something-ness  with which I fell in love with is still there.  Last week, Fred brought up an article originally written in the July 1976 issue of "24 Magazine". The Perpetual Quest p388-397

Good evening everyone, Before I get to the weekly reminder, I wanted to inform everyone, if you didn't know already, that this years  Manual Antonio AA International Convention  is coming up. The convention will be May 6, 7 & 8th (Fri thru Sunday). I think it would be awesome if we could get a group of the wednesday night men's group to go. I even got a hall pass from my significant other already!! You can check out the convention and  register online here  . There are no upfront fees, you pay when you show up. You do need to reserve a hotel room ahead of time and I'd like to get a head count so maybe we can split some rooms between us. Go ahead and take a look at the website and we can discuss everything at the end of the meeting this week.
