Speaker Meeting - Remembering our last drunk

Hello folks,

Just your weekly friendly remind for the Wendesday Night Riverside Men's Group (still getting used to saying it!). Anyways, this week we have a Speaker Meeting. I'm thinking it may be time to reset the speaker list, we've been doing the once monthly speaker meeting since January of 2014. Maybe we cut the list at a year?

I actually just got to share my story recently. The 5-7 minute version of it anyway. I was in Tamarindo last week at the "Waves of Serenity" Group and they asked me to open the meeting with 5-7 minutes of my particular brand of experience, strength & hope. All I could recall was the nightmare I had lived in Tamarindo about 10 years ago on spring break with my college frat. We were in some bar at the Tamarindo Circle and I'd started a fight with some local to earn flirting rights with some gringa (hope she was good looking at least, can't recall).

A few punches were thrown and as we went down grappling at each other a piece of rebar sticking out of the ground caught enough of the other guy's neck to cause some serious bleeding. The whole town thought I'd killed the guy and basically formed a lynch mob. I later found out I didn't kill the guy but that was after they'd destroyed the rent-a-car and smashed my friend's jaw with an Imperial beer bottle fracturing it and causing him some weird short-term memory loss for the rest of the night.... but I'm sober now so life is groovy!! (that's the short version of it at least).

The meeting was great and when I left I walked out to the Tamarindo circle to find that this time my rent-a-car was happily in one piece. Those around me had little to worry from me starting some bullshit fight that would get them injured in the process. Furthermore, I had no fear, regret or shame whatsoever the next day about what I'd done.

Two things occurred to me; 1- With experiences like these, and we've all had something or other like this, it's no wonder we suffer that vague fear of impending doom -- Doom was impending and we were right to fear it!! and 2- What a relief it is to have that feeling slowly begin to dissipate.

Best Regards,
David t.

A Drunk, Like You p398-406

Hi everyone, My apologies on sending this out late this week, I've been battling a little bit of a cold lately. Anywho, I'd like to thank Dave W. for sharing his excellent story with us last week, nothing helps recovery along like a heavy dose of humor & depravity and Jesus Dave delivered in spades!! Also I'd like to remind everyone of the upcoming AA convention in Manuel Antonio that's taking place from May 6-8th. We're still working on the details of organizing our group to get out there but let me know if your interested and go online to  register now  -  It's FREE!!  (to register anyways, you pay later!!) This week we'll be reading  A Drunk, like You p398-406 . This was the first time for me reading it and I got a lot out of it. Aside from the fact that I always love listening to another  Member of the Tribe  breaking barriers by showing that alcoholism is no respecter of race, religion or creed, proving you  jew *i mean too*  ...

Gutter Bravado p501-511

Good evening Folks, This week we will be reading & discussing  Gutter Bravado p501-511.   One of the great joys of my life is hosting this Wednesday night meeting of which I've had the privileged to serve for some time now. So it gives me a great sense of satisfaction whenever I hear someone, especially a new comer, say that there is  something  special about our meeting. To me it means that the same  something-ness  with which I fell in love with is still there.  Last week, Fred brought up an article originally written in the July 1976 issue of "24 Magazine". In the article, the unknown author compares the quality of someone's AA program to Strong/Medium/Week Coffee.  See the article here:  http://www. barefootsworld.net/ aagreshamslaw.html  It's a bit long but well worth the read (kind of like my e-mails!! lol).  Basically it describes how the rapid growth of AA in the early 40's created a situation in which y...

My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445

Good evening everyone, Just wanted to send out a quick email and let everyone know that there will be a meeting this wednesday even though it is Semana Santa. We will be reading  My Bottle, My Resentments, and Me p437-445.  I would ask one favor because I am heading out for Nicaragua that very night at 11pm if we could all please arrive punctually so we can close a bit early I'd appreciate it (I know, I'm talking to alcoholics, it's a lost cause.... lol)    Let me know if you can make it please!
