New Pair of Glasses - The Problem - p.20-34

Good evening my friends, As the old saying goes; Better Late than Never!! I got a little caught up in the wackiness of the day-to-day living of a sober alcoholic but anywho..... My Apologies! Tomorrow we'll be continuing this excellent book by Chuck C - A New Pair of Glasses -  The Problem - p.20-34.  I personally think none have described the problem better than The Big Book. If you had the time to read the preface though, Chuck sums up the argument pretty well: The most baffling characteristic of alcoholism - both to the alcoholic and to those who must deal with him - is the paradox in which the conflict of sober reality eventually always becomes untenable, leading to the return to alcohol and/or drugs for relief. Then the relief presents an obvious problem.... [so] Neither Sobriety nor its chemical counterpoint can provide a meaningful cessation of the conflict.  p.viii I have in the past, as many others have as well, made the mistake of thinking my problem...

Chapt 9 - Becoming Happy - p183-205

Good evening, We come, at last, to the end of the book. This week we close out by reading Chapter 9 - Becoming Happy. I've had a copy of this book for a while now, a few months before we began reading it here. To be honest, when I first got the book I skipped every other chapter and read this chapter first. Somehow, I don't think I'm unique in wanting to skip the BS and just get to the "Being Happy" part!!  Although, now that I think about, the name of the chapter is  Becoming  Happy  not   Being  Happy. There is definitely a process at work here. On page 132 of The Big Book it says:  "We are sure God wants us to be happy, joyous, and free."  However, it also says in the first two lines of How it Works:   " Rarely have we seen a person fail who has thoroughly followed our path. Those who do not recover are people who cannot or will not completely give themselves to this simple program..." When I put those two facts together I realize tha...

A New Pair of Glasses by Chuck C - p0-19

Hello everyone, This week we will be starting on a new book:  A New Pair of Glasses by Chuck C.  I wanted to start by giving a big THANK YOU to Todd P for making a bunch of copies available to everyone in the group.  If you don't have a copy you can buy one from Todd for only $7!! (~¢3.700)  And as an added bonus, if you call now, Todd will gift wrap it, include a box of assorted chocolates and personally hand deliver the book to you at a time & place of your choosing... Just Kidding!!  At the bottom of the e-mail you will see the new schedule for the book. I've tried to break it down into smaller parts so that It'll take us about 3 months to get through all ~190 pages. I tried breaking it on pages where it made sense to take a break but If the paragraph doesn't end neatly on that page just read until the end of that paragraph. I'm looking forward to trading in my Faux kleys & Ray- Bons for a new pair!! See everyone soon, David t 2015 ...
