Good evening,
I hope everyone returning from the Nicaragua retreat had a good time. Sorry about the late e-mail but I got a little side tracked with Monday Night Football, my niners are down 14-0 but it's only the 2nd quarter... :-/Having watched our human resources, as marshaled by the will, fail utterly; we came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. Except I thought, in my twisted alcoholic mind, that I had already tried faith and found it wanting. If we were to truly ask for his protection and care with complete abandon, we had to become willing to let go of our old ideas. A good place to start was the dictionary:
Gnosticism comes from the Latin word gnostos, meaning “known” (or: “having knowledge”). Therefore, a Gnostic is one who has the knowledge that a god exists.
Agnosticism means the opposite of Gnosticism. The prefix a- means “without” and gnostos means “knowledge”. Put the two meanings together: a [without] + gnostos [knowledge] = without knowledge. Agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in a god for the reason they are without knowledge.
Having never before experienced a personal relationship with god or witness his miracles in my life, I was clearly an agnostic.
See everyone soon!
Regards,
David t.
P.S. By the time I finished writing this the Niners are up 17-14 in the 3rd qtr!! Just gotta have some faith!! ;)
